As I am now coming to the end of my project I need to start thinking about how I plan on presenting my project to my target audience. However, I have already had thought of some ideas that I thought would present my project perfectly.
Target audience:
In order for me to present my project I need to think of a target audience that my project is specifically for. At first I planned on having my target audience be people around my age, 12-25 year old who are into video games, as this is who I planned my character for.
I am now planning to have my target audience expand to people who are also interested in either Manx History or English History or both. This is because my character incorporates both histories into one person.
Idea 1: Show reel
I had initially thought about putting my character into a show reel that shows off the many different poses that my character would be in. To get to the end product this way, I would need to set the maximum number of frames I want in the video clip, and then move onto posing the character into different poses. I would do this by using the posing mode in Blender on the character and proceed to put him into the different poses that I came up with in my ideas phase. However, when I was working on the character, I started to realise that I wouldn’t have enough time for me to put the character into different poses because of the amount of time it takes to move and rotate limbs in a way that doesn’t stretch other parts of the body of the character. I do think though, that with more time to work on this project, that I would have been able to go with this initial plan. I thought that this plan of having a range of poses would have been more interesting for my target audience to view my character, but the degree of work involved is greater than the time I have to finish it off, so I am focused on establishing my character into one main pose.
Idea 2: Animation
Another idea I have is to have the character go through a short animation. I plan on having the character do an animation of possibly unsheathing a sword or another type of weapon and then do some attack animations. The method required to complete this outcome is something I would need a lot of help with, as I have never done this kind of animation before, and it would be very difficult to do because it is a sophisticated and intricate process. Like the previous idea this will take too long to make, even longer than the first idea. It will also require a lot of time learning new techniques in animating my character which I don’t think I have time at this stage in the course to learn. I would need to develop my understanding of Blender and programmes to a higher level (something I hope to develop further in my tertiary course in the next year.) Thus I won’t be able to make achieve this outcome for my project due to time, resource and knowledge factors. I do think, however, that I would be able to do something like this in my spare time after the project is done. But for the moment I don’t have enough time for it or the experience.
Idea 3: 360 Camera video
After thinking about it for a little bit, I have come up with the idea of having a camera in Blender go around my character. This I think, would be very good for my audience as they would get to see the character up close and would also be able to see how much detail there is to the character. I believe that if I incorporate this idea with the first idea, (the show reel idea) then I might be able to have the camera go around the character in one or two poses depending on time. This would then show not only the posing work but also the sculpting and level of texturing work that I have applied to the character. I might then encase the character inside an environment to add to give some background that adds realism to it. I will attempt to add ambient sound to also compliment the environment so it heightens the effect on the character and the viewer to add something to the sensory perception when watching the camera move around the character.
I think this design will be good for my target audience because they can see the detail of the design of the character including texture and parts of the armour well. They will be able to see this from a range of angles and be able to see how it reflects the type of armour and cladding that influenced by historical Manx and English figures/warriors. I think that it will appeal to my target audience and show them how I have been inspired by the style used in war and by medieval knights and vikings. These types of figures, I think are what I think the target audience would appreciate and the 360 camera video will give a specific and clear view of it in the context of a natural and neutral setting. So I have decided in the time frame to go with this.
